All businesses with 50 or more employees must set up a works council which must be consulted, and whose approval must be obtained in some cases, when important decisions are made.
Consulting experts
Often an employer will require the council to respond by a particular date, but the council will not have sufficient information to do so. Here, the Act gives the council the right to consult external experts at the employer’s expense.
Striking a balance
We can help works councils to deal with key employee participation issues, reconcile their own needs with those of the employees and unions involved and the business itself, and develop appropriate communication strategies.
Training
We also run courses for works councils, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of these important bodies and how these can be balanced with the interests of employers.
